What Magic Bars?

Traditional Magic Bars, also known as Hello Dolly Bars or 7 Layer Bars (Since I live in Australia, I actually didn’t not know what a Magic Bar was…I am now addicted to them!), are made with a buttery biscuit base, topped with any kind of nut, shredded coconut, any choice of chocolate chips, and butterscotch chips (I didn’t have butterscotch chips so I substituted that for Caramilk chocolate chips) then drizzled with sweetened condensed milk, which caramelizes on top when baked.

The simplest yet delicious dessert anybody could make, and you could honestly find most of these ingredients in your pantry!

How To Assemble a Magic Bar:

  1. You start with pouring your biscuit crumb into your prepared pan, then using a spatula and measuring cup, evenly spread the biscuit then evenly pat the crumb down flat.

  2. Evenly scatter over the desiccated coconut, followed by 2/3 of the peanuts and both chocolate chips.

  3. Pour over the sweetened condensed milk and spread for even coverage.

  4. Lastly top with the remaining peanuts and chocolate chips so the top is evenly covered. Bake this for 30 minutes and you have a delicious, super easy Magic Bars.

Baking Tips:

  • Easier slicing: For easier slicing you can refrigerate the bar for an hour once it has fully cooled from the oven as the bar can be quite soft and gooey.

  • Fun substitutions: You can honestly do whatever variations you like as long as you have the two main components, the cookie base and the sweetened condensed milk to hold everything together. Fun swaps include white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, dried fruits, Marshmallows, toffee bites, pretzels, M&Ms or any other small chocolates/candies.
