ANZAC Biscuit Caramel Slice
ANZAC Biscuit Caramel Slice is a delightful marriage of two beloved treats, combining the classic flavors of ANZAC biscuits with the rich sweetness of caramel. This indulgent slice features a crunchy Anzac biscuit base, providing a perfect contrast to the luscious layer of smooth, buttery caramel on top, lastly topped with a delicious ANZAC biscuit crumble. The sweet and salty notes from the biscuits complement the sticky caramel, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. Each bite offers a wonderful balance of chewiness, crunch, and decadent sweetness, making it a truly irresistible treat for any occasion.
For my overseas readers ANZAC biscuits are an absolute classic recipe in Australia. ANZAC stands for “Australian and New Zealand Army Corps” and on April the 25th, ANZAC biscuits are traditionally made to commemorate our fallen soldiers each year.
How To Assemble the ANZAC Biscuit Caramel Slice:
Pour 2/3 of the ANZAC biscuit mixture into your prepared pan, evenly spread with a spatula or your hands.
Bake the base for 15 minutes or until golden.
Once you have made the caramel, evenly pour the caramel over the baked ANZAC base, evenly spreading with a spatula.
Sprinkle the remaining ANZAC biscuit mixture over the caramel. Bake for 20 minutes, then allow to cool. Refrigerate for 2 hours and then slice up into as many pieces as you like.
Baking Tips:
Sweetened condensed milk: Only use full fat sweetened condensed milk, not skim condensed milk as the caramel won’t set properly.
Golden syrup alternative: If you don’t have access to golden syrup, you can substitute it for honey, maple syrup or rice malt syrup.
